ABRATES ACCREDITATION PROGRAM

Following the example set by many translators’ associations in various countries, ABRATES has launched its Accreditation Program for translators in Brazil. Accreditation is the formal recognition of professional competence and, in our case, it means the certification of the translator’s competence in working with one or more pairs of languages.  

Accreditation is conferred on the translator on the basis of passing a specific examination, held under controlled conditions, that is prepared and corrected by an Examining Bench made up of professionals of recognized suitability and competence in a variety of fields. The seriousness and transparency of the process form one of the foundations for the success of the program.

Accreditation is an important step towards increasing the recognition given by society and clients to translation professionals. Accredited translators can make reference to their accreditation in their curriculum vitae, business cards, home pages and other promotional materials.

Accreditation given by an organization formed by translators and for translators represents an advantage at the time of presenting yourself to the market, at the time of giving information about your professional qualifications and at the time of indicating that you value your profession through being linked with a professional association and having your competence recognized by that association.

This is the context within which the ABRATES Accreditation Program has been organized. To do this, ABRATES consulted translators in different fields of specialization and with different experiences in this subject, and also university teachers and directors of translation courses. These consultations defined the requirements to be fulfilled. The regulations for the program were discussed with translators and translation teachers, in order to arrive at criteria that would be as objective as possible within a field that is subjective by nature, with the aim of obtaining uniformity in the different tests. 

ABRATES Accreditation Program has been created and put into practice in a serious, discerning and impartial manner.
